I joined The Mountain Community School team in January of 2012. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois and an undergraduate degree in Education from North Central College in Naperville, IL.
I was a middle school teacher for nine years before beginning my career in school administration. I began as an assistant principal in a middle school in the southern suburb’s of Chicago and soon worked my way to becoming the Director of Curriculum and Technology. I have had many wonderful opportunities where I have worked alongside teachers and administrators to create exceptional programming as well as cutting edge technological opportunities for students.
I left Chicago in search of warmer weather and spent the next several years living in a small beach community by the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, working as an administrator in the private sector. I found this experience to be extremely valuable as it offered a different perspective to educating the “whole child”.
After several years of vacationing in the Asheville area, my entire family fell in love with Western North Carolina’s mountains and all the beauty this area has to offer. We decided to move to Asheville and subsequently I accepted the principalship at The Mountain Community School.
I feel strongly that my background in both public and private education have served me well as the leader of this highly successful public charter school. I love working with such a strong, dedicated staff that loves their work and has committed themselves to providing exceptional educational experiences to all their students. I feel very fortunate to guide an amazing group of students who love their school and look forward to new learning opportunities each and every day. I am grateful to be a part of a community that believes in the mission of this school, showing its support and commitment in a multitude of ways.
With close to twenty five years of educational experience, I have come full circle and feel I have found a true home at The Mountain Community School. I’m happy to be serving such a wonderful community and thrilled to help create an exciting vision for the future.
